Training on IBM SPSS for Faculty at Kochi Business School

Kochi Business School (KBS) recently hosted an enriching training session on IBM SPSS Statistics for faculty. The event aimed to enhance the analytical capabilities of the KBS faculty. The training session on IBM SPSS was led by Mr. Rejikumar. He is a seasoned professor from Amrita University, known for his expertise in statistical modeling and applied research.

IBM SPSS Statistics, originally developed as "Statistical Package for the Social Sciences," is one of the world’s leading software packages for statistical analysis. It offers a user-friendly interface combined with robust analytical power, making it a preferred tool in academia and industries alike. The software allows users to perform descriptive statistics, regression analysis, ANOVA, factor analysis, hypothesis testing, and predictive modeling, among many other statistical techniques.

During the training, faculty members were introduced to both the theoretical background and practical applications of SPSS. The session included:

• Data Entry and Management: Understanding how to input, clean, and organize raw data for analysis.
• Descriptive Statistics: Learning how to summarize data using measures like mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and graphical representations.
• Inferential Analysis: Hands-on exercises on running t-tests, chi-square tests, and correlations to conclude sample data.
• Regression and Predictive Analytics: Exploring linear and multiple regression techniques to understand relationships and forecast trends.
• Data Visualization Tools: Creating histograms, scatterplots, and box plots to communicate findings effectively.

The training also emphasized real-world applications of SPSS in research projects, classroom instruction, and academic assessments. Faculty gained practical insights on how to apply statistical tools to enhance the quality and reliability of their research outputs, ensuring they remain aligned with current academic standards and expectations.
