At Kochi Business School, we believe that true leadership and effective team-building are the cornerstones of success in any business environment. Students at KBS had the pleasure of applying these skills in real life in a hair-raising event - Corporate Cricket League (CCL). This tournament hosted annually brought together professionals from 50 elite regional companies. The event was hosted and organized by our very own students and served as a fantastic platform to showcase sporting talents and hone skills that are important in the corporate world.
CCL goes beyond mere competition and transforms into an event that fosters collaboration and instills the importance of leadership. Both elements are incredibly useful in a modern, constantly adapting world, and thus at Kochi Business School, these characteristics are taught.
The tournament was a great success. But what caught the attention of many was the incredible assistance of students in hosting this event. Their work did not end with the event. They actively engaged with team management and logistics, making day-of operation seamless.
Guiding a group toward success requires much more effort than simply telling people what to do. Great leaders, in contrast, work towards energizing and motivating their teams. It comes as no surprise that KBS provided its students with an opportunity to lead an entire event which required them to make snap decisions, troubleshoot unexpected problems, and more importantly, keep the event on track.
In this scenario, the students learned that leadership is not only about planning, but foresight and execution of plans. Having emotional intellect, being a problem solver, and being an able communicator, especially under duress, are critical to the role of a leader. These attributes are very tough to acquire in a classroom, and great experiences like the one KBS provided its students with nurture these attributes.
The Corporate Cricket League placed equal importance on developing team-oriented skills. Every successful team is based on trust, effective communication, and mutual respect all of which were conspicuous in the entire event. Students executed various roles from the master scheduling for the day to seamless team wrangling, all supporting each other without disloyalty.
Most importantly, good team-building promotes a productive workplace culture that actively engages every single employee irrespective of their designated duty.
